Plant raffle to highlight Kalinga Women’s Month celebration

Tabuk City, Kalinga – As a way to respond to the crisis brought about by the COVID 19 pandemic, women leaders in the province thought to raffle off seeds and seedlings this women’s month celebration to encourage families to plant and grow their own food supply.

Dubbed as ‘Do not Give Food, Grow Food,’ the project allows women to bring their own seeds, seedlings, and even ornamental plants to be included in the raffle, which in a way would also allow the women to exchange plants.

Natividad Sugguiyao, from the Office of Provincial IPMR, said that instead of giving "ayuda" amidst the health crisis, growing plants is more sustainable.

“If we grow food then it will be more sustainable and that is our role as women that we are going to provide food for the family,” she said.

Meanwhile, Governor Ferdinand Tubban’s wife, Dr. Ana Lua Tubban, said that this activity is symbolic and very timely especially that the pandemic allowed more opportunity for people to grow various plants at home.

“Siguro ginigising lang ng Covid-19 ‘yung pagiging ina natin o ang pagiging babae natin kung saan we have two hands na creative, nakakagawa tayo, nakakatanim tayo,” she said.

Meantime, other activities for the women’s month celebration include recognition of the women who stood beside their men and the women who significantly contributed to the development of Kalinga in different fields.

The celebration date is yet to be finalized after its postponement due to the prohibition of face to face activities in the province.
