Tabuk City, Kalinga – Law enforcers are warning the public to refrain from public display of affection or PDA amidst the pandemic, else they will be called out considering that this is against the social distancing guidelines to prevent the transmission of COVID 19.

In a speaking engagement with the media this Wednesday, March 10, Philippine National Police Chief, General Debold Sinas said that, PDA had been prohibited even before, and that implementation is being heightened with the continuous rise of COVID-19 cases.

Though there are no formal sanctions yet for violators, PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen Ildebrandi Usana in an interview with CNN Philippines, explained that, the authorities will only call out violators, “siguro sa tingin lang ng pulis, baka madala na sila. O kung lalapitan, pwedeng kausapin, sasabihing 'di pwede iyan.’”

Meantime, Kalinga Police Provincial Director, PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong said that people should always presume they are asymptomatic and that they should avoid too much physical contact with others, including family members who are always going out in public.

“It’s for the prevention of COVID-19 infection, since we are not sure if one (family) member is asymptomatic especially those who are working and always going out. Kaasi met relatives da especially those who are vulnerable. We must always presume nga asymptomatic tayo,” he said.

Different acts of physical intimacy that are prohibited in public include holding hands, kissing, and embracing. Additionally, the strengthened prohibition on PDA is part of the enforcement of the minimum health protocols.

As of 4PM of March 10, there are 44,470 active cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, 546,293 had already recovered, and 12,545 had succumbed to the virus.

In Kalinga, there are 273 active cases as of March 9, 2021.
