Balbalan, Kalinga – A rebel was killed in an encounter with the army in Sitio Babacong, Barangay Gawa-an this Monday, March 15.

The AFP identified him as a certain Rudy Daguitan alias Pinpin, a Political Officer or Political Instructor of KLG Baggas, ICRC.

The 5th Infantry Division reported that the government troops were patroling the area when around 20 members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army fired against them.

This led to a gunfight that lasted in several minutes until the alleged rebels dispersed but left the dead body of their comrade.

Additionally, 5ID Commander MGen Laurence Mina said that the incident should serve as a lesson to the remaining rebels as he called them to lay down their arms and return to the fold of law.

Meantime, the troops in Flora, Apayao had also two encounters with the CPP-NPA on Sunday, March 14, where they recovered several firearms and other items.
