Slain NPA cadre in Gonzaga, Cagayan receives ‘decent’ burial from the government

Cagayan, Philippines – The slain rebel in the recent clash in Gonzaga was laid to rest and given a 'decent' burial by the government yesterday, February 27, 2024.

The deceased cadre, identified by the 5th Infantry Division as a certain Gerald Paredog, alias 'Daloy' or 'Gani', was killed in a 10-minute firefight between the military and members of the Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley in Sitio Laoc, Pateng, Gonzaga on February 23.

On Tuesday, four days after the incident, he was given a funeral by the Gonzaga Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict and buried in a public cemetery in Pateng.

According to the 5th ID, Daloy was a native of Margarita, Samar, but he resided in Quezon City when he became an organizer of the Migrante International Quezon City Chapter and joined the Compatriots and the Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas.

In December 2016, he reportedly became an official member of the New People’s Army.

He initially served as a medical officer for the West Front Committee of the Committee ng KomProb Cagayan before being transferred to the East Front Committee of the same organization.

The 5th Infantry Division continues to appeal to the remaining NPA members to surrender and lead peaceful lives with their loved ones, stating that their doors are open for rebels who wish to return to the fold of the law.
