Tabuk City, Kalinga – As one of the city’s first responders to emergencies, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Tabuk City revealed that many of the road crash victims they attended to in 2025 were minors and intoxicated individuals.

From January to December last year, BFP Tabuk City, led by Acting Fire Marshal Fire Senior Inspector Gilbert Ngaya-an, responded to a total of 265 traffic accidents in the city.

Speaking to GURU Press Cordillera, BFP Tabuk City spokesperson Fire Officer 1 Aila Phyllia said that the usual victims of road accidents they dealt with last year included students driving motorcycles and individuals under the influence of alcohol. She explained that in many cases they responded to at around 10:00 p.m. onwards, the victims smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared intoxicated.

“Kasi talaga mga students ang aming narerespondehan and one more is due to intoxication. Sa gabi, nu adda man responde nga mapanan mi, mga 10 p.m. beyond, mostly sa kanila ay amoy alak. Hindi natin technically masasabi na talagang nakainom kasi wala tayong breathalyzer pero just by the breath alone ket maangot mo,” Phyllia said.

With this, BFP Tabuk City reminded parents of their responsibility and accountability for their children and urged them not to allow minors to drive motorcycles or other vehicles. The fire bureau also appealed to the public to avoid driving while intoxicated.

“Sapay kuma ta this year ket we should start it right. In the previous year, ang common or usual na victims ay mga minors or intoxicated with alcohol. Ket sapay kuma ta haan tayo ul-uliten manen dagiti previous mistakes tayo,” Phyllia expressed.

As part of their general reminders to motorists, the spokesperson added: “Bago bimiyahe, lalo na sa mga may car, yung lagi naming tips ay i-check ang battery, lights, oil, water, brakes, air, gas, engine, tires, and self. Iyan po ang lagi naming nirere-remind sa mga motorists.”
