Benguet, Philippines – A 47-year-old man was buried alive while gold panning with his daughter in Tuba, Benguet on Tuesday, January 27.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim, identified as Diantor Collado, a resident of Camp 1, Tuba, went to the riverbank near their home at around 4 p.m. to pan for gold when a sudden landslide occurred, trapping him.

His daughter, who was at the lower portion of the riverbank at the time, went to look for her father but could not find him. A few minutes later, she heard faint sounds coming from the collapsed debris, prompting her to check the area, where she was able to locate him.

The daughter immediately called for help from nearby residents.

Collado was later recovered and rushed to a medical facility but succumbed to multiple injuries he sustained on different parts of his body.

His family waived an autopsy, citing their belief that his death was accidental.

Last month, a production department supervisor of a mining company also died in a soil collapse at a mining site in Camp 3, Tuba, Benguet.
