iKalinga Taekwondo master wins bronze in 2025 World Masters Games

Tabuk City, Kalinga – An iKalinga taekwondo instructor was able to capture a bronze medal in the Poomsae under 40 category at the 2025 World Masters Games (WMG) held in New Taipei City, Taiwan in May.

 

Poomsae (taekwondo patterns) is a sequence of taekwondo techniques linked together into a pattern of moves.

 

Jeffrey Ysmael, 40, hailing from Dangoy, Lubuagan is among the instructors who proudly brought home a bronze medal after winning in the final round robin matches in the Poomsae of the under 40 years old category of the WMG on May 17-30.

In an interview with GURU Press Cordillera, Ysmael, who has been accumulating international medals like gold in the 13th World Takewondo Culture Expo in South Korea, shared he has been playing Poomsae for 15 years now.

 

When asked about what’s next after his current achievement, the taekwondo-trained engineer shared that he is aiming to qualify for the World Championship in Korea in 2026 and the World Master Games in Japan in 2027.

 

The iLubuagan mentor is the Head Instructor of Kalinga Taekwondo Academy affiliated with the Philippine Taekwondo Association. Apart from being an instructor, Ysmael is also a dedicated Engineer working under the City Building and Architecture Office of the City Local Government Unit.
