Kalinga farmers continue to benefit from SAAD program

Rizal, Kalinga – The implementation of the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program of the Department of Agriculture continues this year in the province and on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, turned-over Php 936,900-worth agricultural machineries and farming tools to farmers in Barangay Romualdez.


The 60 power sprayers, according to SAAD- Kalinga, were given to Romualdez Farmer’s association while the 21 sets of garden tools were received by 21 farmers who have not received theirs during the distribution last year.

The items given are in support to the Integrated Lowland Vegetables, Fruit Trees and Goat Production Project provided to the association.


Present during the awarding are officials of the municipal and barangay local government units of Rizal and a representative from the Office of the Congressman, Allen Jesse Mangaoang.

Previous distribution of farming equipment


SAAD-Kalinga on February 8 and 9 also distributed farming equipment and agricultural inputs to two associations in the province, the YGuilayon Farmers’ Livelihood Association of Guilayon, Tabuk City and the Churawon Farmers’ Association (CFA) of Upper Bangad, Tinglayan.


Received by the farmer-recipients of YGuilayon Farmers’ Livelihood Association were 1 unit incubator, 50 spray can units, and 50 pcs shovel. The interventions, according to DA Kalinga, are in support to the 2020 Duck Production Project and to the additional project from 2020 savings, Fruit Trees Production Project.

As for CFA, 48 bags of grower poultry feeds, 48 bags rice bran, 50 spray can units and, 50 pcs shovel were given to them. This, according to the agency, is in partial support to the FY 2020 Integrated Duck and Fruit Trees Production Project provided to the association.


The livelihood interventions given to these two associations is eyed to serve as additional source of income and to help secure their food supply during this pandemic.


SAAD, a locally-funded program of the Department of Agriculture started on 2017 with an aim to provide livelihood among the marginalized sectors in Agriculture and Fishery
