Kalinga left with P138M infrastructure damages, over P61M agri losses due to Typhoon Kristine

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga, one of the provinces under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 3 for two days during the onslaught of Typhoon Kristine, suffered huge losses.


Torrential downpour and intense wind were experienced in the province, triggering landslides and swelling of water sources during the height of the typhoon resulting in massive infrastructure and crop damages.


A report from the provincial information office on Tuesday, October 29, said the agricultural sector incurred about P61, 895, 900 of accumulated losses from rice, high-value crops, poultry, and livestock.


Areas mostly affected are the municipalities of Rizal, Tanudan, Balbalan, Lubuagan, and the city of Tabuk for various crops.


As to poultry and livestock, affected areas included Rizal, Tanudan, Balbalan, Tabuk City, and Lubuagan.


For infrastructure damages, concerned national-line agencies estimated the losses at P138 million. These included damages to irrigation and water systems and roads.


Changes in data are expected as reports from other municipalities are still being consolidated.


Affected families and Individuals


For families affected by the typhoon, PLGU Kalinga said it totaled to 495 families or 1,682 persons. They were evacuated but were reported to have gone back home after the typhoon.


Out of said families, two families reported their homes were totally damaged - one in Malucsad, Pasil and another in Bulanao, Tabuk City.


Meantime, a 68-year-old man from Malucsad, Pasil was injured but was saved from a landslide that buried half of his body on October 24.


Gratitude to PDRRMC


Provincial Governor James Edduba, during an inter-agency meeting on October 29, expressed gratitude to the Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Committee for serving as frontliners, aiding to iKalingas in need during the disaster.
