Santa Maria, Isabela - A man was saved from possible death after he tried to end his own life by jumping off a bridge in Barangay Mozzozzin Sur, Santa Maria, Isabela, over the weekend.

According to the police report obtained by a local media outlet, it was around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2025 when the man jumped into the river for unknown reasons.

Fortunately, two concerned residents (Nolie Malalnao and Jovimar Alingod) saw what happened and immediately rushed to the river to save the man. Police Staff Sergeant Cartier Manibug from the Santa Maria Police Station, who was notified by the two, also arrived on time and helped them in rescuing the victim.

After successfully pulling the man out of the water, the rescuers contacted the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) for medical attention and to have him checked for any injuries.

Medical examination revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened.

The reason behind the attempt to end his life was no longer disclosed by the police, but it was mentioned that the man is now safe and did not suffer any wounds after jumping from the bridge.
