Remains of Young Communist killed in 2017 found

Cagayan, Philippines – Remains of a student who joined the New People’s Army and was killed in an encounter with the military in 2017 was recovered in Baggaom Cagayan on January 23, this is after a former rebel and comrade gave information to the army.


According to the report of 5ID Startroopers, Philippine Army, Alyas Aira died in an encounter with the troops in San Jose, Baggao on June 25, 2017 after their group attacked a military camp. According to her comrade, she was just simply buried by the NPA without a decent wake.

Aira was the Medical Officer and Political Guide of Northern Front Komiteng Rehiyon - Cagayan Valley and was a former student at Cagayan State University.


Additionally, before she joined the movement, she was a member of Kabataan and College Editor’s Guild of the Philippines. Moreover, Aira was said to be the daughter of an NPA commander in Cagayan.


The remains of Aira was brought to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office of Region II for further examination.

Meantime, 5th Infantry Division commander MGen. Laurence Mina lamented the death of Aira and hopes that no youth will experience the same fate because of joining the movement.


“...Ito ang naging resulta ng panlilinlang ng mga rebeldeng CPP-NPA sa mga kabataan at mga estudyante. Sana ay wala ng kabataang matulad sa sinapit ni alyas Aira dahil sa pagsanib sa NPA,” he expressed.
