Tabuk City, Kalinga - Out of desperation to feed his hungry baby, a single father in Tabuk City risked his own freedom.

The father, according to the Facebook post of the Tabuk City Police Station (PNP Kalinga Tabuk), was caught stealing one box of Enfamil milk weighing 1.725 kilograms at the Talavera Supermarket just recently.

The man was caught and was later turned over to the Tabuk PNP Sub-Station 2 in Barangay Bulanao by the employees of the supermarket.

Behind the act is a heartbreaking story. During the investigation, it was found that the suspect is a single dad caring for an infant. He told police that he had no job after his construction work ended and was left alone with his baby after his wife abandoned them.

After hearing the father's narratives, Police Lieutenant Colonel (PLTCOL) Jack E. Angog, who is also a father, was said to have decided to help by paying for the stolen item so that the man would not be jailed.

The father was no longer charged and was allowed to go home to see his baby.

“Upon learning the circumstances behind the incident, PLTCOL JACK E ANGOG, himself a father, felt empathy toward the suspect. He settled the amount of the stolen item to prevent the suspect from being imprisoned and give him a chance to start anew,” said Tabuk PNP through their FB Post.

The post drew attention online, where many commended and praised the officer and the station kindness.

“Maaramid na iman agtakaw tapnu maiprovide na lang gatas anak na. Ada met dagijay ada mabalin na kada ada trabaho da ket di da man la masuportaran dagiti putot da uray bearbrand man la koma. God bless, sir COP.. Mabuhay ka Sir!,” commented one of the netizens.
