Benguet, Philippines - Search teams in Benguet continue to comb through mountains and forests to find a 68-year-old farmer feared buried in a landslide and a 25-year-old police trainee who went missing during a navigation exercise.

In La Trinidad, search operations led by the Municipal Police Station continue their work to locate an elderly farmer identified as Nardo Cariño, who is believed to have been buried in a landslide while cleaning a drainage canal near his farm in Sitio Talinguroy, Barangay Wangay, at around 4 a.m. on Friday last week, July 25.

The multi-agency search teams, including community volunteers, have cleared a wide area and are now focusing on the creek leading to Lower Wangal, according to Lt. Col. Zacarias Dausen, chief of La Trinidad Police.

In a separate incident in Ampucao, Itogon, Patrolman Aaron Blas remains missing after his disappearance during a land navigation exercise as part of their Basic Internal Security Operations Course (BISOC).

The police trainee from San Gregorio, Luna, Apayao was last seen wearing his uniform in the afternoon of July 14, walking near Zigzag Dam 2 at the compound of Philex Mines.

No trace has been found yet as of this writing.

While authorities assured the worried families that both search efforts press on with no let-up until the missing individuals are found, they explained the importance of ensuring the safety of responders under risky or dangerous weather conditions.
