1-day face to face learners' assessment conducted in Gaang Elementary School, Tanudan

Tanudan, Kalinga — Gaang Elementary School, a remote educational institution in Tanudan, has been granted one day to conduct the division assessment test through face to face this December 3, 2021.

Mary Anne Pasado, Officer in Charge of Gaang Elementary School, explained that being in a far-flung place with zero Covid-19 cases, their school was given authority by the Local Government Unit of Tanudan to conduct the division assessment test to their learners face to face. Nevertheless, it was emphasized that they follow the minimum health protocols.

Pasado said that the assessment is quarterly and is designed under the pandemic. She added that this aims to determine which competencies the learners failed to acquire during the modular learning.

“Every quarter, adda iti competencies nga ma-attain iti ubbing ditoy modular nga we are distributing every week… Tattan, i-conduct mi daytoy nga exam tapnu [maamwan] nu anya iti competency ba nga haan nga naawatan diay ubing,” she said.

Pasado added that they will go over the test items answered by the learners and that they employ test item analysis to find out what competencies were inadequately developed. Once identified, they will design strategies to address them.

Meantime, Teacher III Amado Warding narrated that their 55 learners from Kinder to Grade 6 were excited to come to school after not being able to attend their classes since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

“ket talaga kaykayat da ah, excited da nga ag-face to face,” he said, recounting that the learners have been asking if they will finally go back to the traditional face-to-face learning.

Among the challenges, the Gaang Elementary School faces under blended learning include parents’ concerns about the lessons or contents of the module, which they cannot explain to their kids due to lack of education.

When some parents do not understand the module, they are called to come to school, where teachers explain how to help and teach their children in answering their modules.
