Balbalan, Kalinga – Known for its well-preserved landscape, the Balbalasang Eco Village attempts to get the prestigious Best Tourism Village in Cordillera citation this year.

Said search, now on its fourth run, is spearheaded by the Department of Tourism Cordillera to recognize all existing and emerging community-led destinations that are embracing tourism as a driver of development.

For this year, a total of 21 villages entered the search including the Balbalasang Eco Village in Balbalan.

On June 16, the village was subjected to initial assessment by the DOT Cordillera who personally came and experienced the natural beauty, warm hospitality, and sustainable tourism practices of the tourism site known for its pristine surroundings, breathtaking view of mountains and crystal-clear rivers, rich biodiversity, and welcoming community.

Mayor Almar Malannag, together with Municipal Tourism Officer Regine Faye Munda Cruz, received the team of assessors on said date as the officialdom and the entire municipality of Balbalan show their support to Barangay Balbalasang in their quest to become the Best Tourism Village in the region. The mayor reaffirmed his commitment to promoting Balbalasang as one of the must-see destinations in town.

It could be recalled that Balbalan bagged the top 3 spot in the 2024 Search for Best Tourism Village through the Tawang Tourism Village ‘Liyang Sanctuary’. The community received P200,000 in cash prize for their feat in the competition.
