Benguet, Philippines – The Provincial Police Office of Benguet is helping build ‘safe and decent’ house through their Handog Pabahay Program to help the ‘poorest of the poor.’

In a press release of Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation – MPBC, Provincial Director, Police Colonel (PCOL) Reynaldo Pasiwen said that the program ‘emanated from Camp Crame to assist the community who cannot afford to build their own safe house.’

Pasiwen has directed all the 13 Municipal Police Stations (MPS) in the province to find at least one beneficiary for their project.

“Per station, at least may isa lang muna and then the succeeding month, basta kaya ng mga support groups natin, kaya ng sponsors din natin so hindi limited ung mga beneficiaries natin,” the provincial director said.

First beneficiary of ‘Handog Pabahay’

On October 7, 2021, Pasiwen along with Itogon Police Station Chief, Police Major (PMAJ) Dexter Simon and the donors turned over a newly built house to the family of Lorna Dela Cuesta Chani at Sitio Afat Barangay Poblacion, Itogon Benguet.

During the turn over and blessing ceremony, Simon disclosed that personnel of Itogon MPS did a background check on the prospects and selected the Chani family, having assessed that they are the most in need.

The Chani family used to live in a makeshift house out of bamboo but was destroyed by a typhoon in 2015.

Lorna Chani felt grateful to all the personnel and sponsors for making a safe house for her family to live in.

“Ti bagi mi dita a nangaramid ditoy balay karkaru dagituy nag-donate ket ragsak. Naragsak kami ta ammu mi nga daytoy ar-aramiden mi ket makatulong ti maysa nga pamilya,” the Chief of Itogon MPS underscored.

Tublay MPS will likewise turn over the soon to be completed house to their chosen beneficiary.

Other 11 families are assured to receive their own free house before the year ends.

Other programs of Benguet PPO

Pasiwen added that another priority project of Benguet PPO, aside from Handog Pabahay, are waterworks or a system for storing and cleaning water and supplying it to a community.

To date, there are no beneficiaries yet of waterworks but the program will be implemented after the ‘Handog Pabahay.’
