DSWD-CAR provides aid to 300 families affected by flashflood in Ifugao


Ifugao, Philippines – Hours of heavy rainfall resulted in a flash flood in Banaue, carrying residents’ equipment, including some houses, cars, and pets, among others.


The total cost of damages is yet to be determined. No casualties were reported, although at least three individuals were said to have been wounded and later provided with first aid.


Also, three families were brought by the authorities to the municipal evacuation center.

The municipality reported a total of 300 families from six barangays in Banaue, Ifugao affected by the flash flood and mud flow yesterday afternoon, July 06. Said families were given aid by the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera.


In coordination with the local government of Banaue and the Ifugao Provincial Police Office, the Regional Field Office DSWD provided 500 family food packs (FFPs) with a total cost of P339,375 for those affected ones.


Additional 1,000 FFPs will be provided today, according to the said department.


Moreover, non-food items such as sanitation kits, sleeping kits, kitchen kits, and other emergency kits were given to the families.

Road Closure


As of 9:00 PM of July 07, the 2nd District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Ifugao reported that two of the roads in the area are closed to traffic due to a series of landslides and slope collapse.


Said roads are Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road in Barangays Poblacion and Gohang, Banaue; and Nueva Vizcaya-Ifugao-Mt. Province Boundary Road in Barangays Amganad, Tam-an, Poblacion and Viewpoint.


Road clearing is ongoing in said roads.


As of the latest report, the Banaue -Mayoyao-Alfonso Lista-Isabela Boundary Road in Barangay Poitan is already open.
