Pinukpuk, Kalinga – Fleeing members of the Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) left behind several of their high-powered firearms as they escaped from the military following a series of clashes in Pinukpuk, the 103rd Infantry Battalion reported on November 25.

The high-powered firearms recovered after the firefights included an M16 rifle, a Cal. 5.56 rifle (R4), an M203 grenade launcher, and two M653 rifles. Other items seized were a bandolier with four magazines, a hand grenade, two jungle packs, six backpacks, a cellphone, and assorted documents.

All recovered materials were taken by the military for proper documentation. According to the battalion, the items will be examined to support ongoing security and intelligence efforts in Kalinga and nearby provinces to combat insurgency.

“Brigade and battalion commanders commended the joint operating troops for their swift, disciplined, and coordinated actions. They emphasized the Philippine Army’s continued commitment to safeguarding communities, ensuring regional stability, and sustaining security operations to prevent the resurgence of armed groups in far-flung and vulnerable areas,” the 103rd Infantry Battalion wrote in its report.
