Tabuk City, Kalinga – Amid grief, Hector Baggay, the father of fallen iKalinga police officer, clings unto the Lord’s plan, saying had his son not done what he had to do, more individuals would have been harmed by the armed robber.

Hector and other family members travelled to Manila for the wake of his slain son, Patrolman Harwin Baggay, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Chapel in Camp Karingal, Quezon City.

The 28-year-old Harwin who had spent three years in the police service was one of the two cops who responded to the robbery incident early morning of Monday, June 30.

The suspect, at the time, had already shot his victim when the gunshot echoed and alerted Harwin and his buddy who were on duty at their post near the crime scene. The two police rushed to the area; however, the gunman shot the iKalinga police officer responding to the crime. His buddy returned fire and neutralized the suspect.

Speaking before the reporter of ‘24 Oras’, the grieving father of the fallen hero mentioned that the Creator might have plans.

“Siguro may plano si Lord, may plan si God. I love you very much, anak ko. I’m very proud of him. Kung hindi niya ginawa ‘yun, baka marami pang maho-holdup na mga tao kung hindi napatay yung suspect,” Hector expressed.

On July 1, the top cop in the country, PGen. Nicolas Torre III, personally came to the wake of Harwin to pay him respect and to condole with his family. The PNP Chief likewise honored the 28-year-old cop with 'Medalya ng Kadakilaan' for his heroism, courage, and commitment to service. A financial assistance was also handed to the grieving family.
