Santa Marcela, Apayao – Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez lauded the initiative of the yApayao overseas workers in Hong Kong as they celebrate Apayao Day for the first time away from home on March 17.

Apayao Day is celebrated on February 14, the same as in Kalinga Province. The later celebration was done to coincide with the common time of the yApayao OFWs and the people they invited to join them.

The Mayor said she was glad to have been one of those invited to participate in the first-ever celebration of Apayao Day with the yApayao OFWs in said foreign land in response to the invitation sent by the Association’s organizers.

The program was filled with jovial activities that showcased the rich cultures and practices of Apayao Province through beauty pageants, dances, and songs, and participated with numerous fellow yApayaos and Cordilleran citizens.

Said gathering was organized to show and celebrate in an international setting the developments, progress, and remarkable transformation of the province which has stemmed from its separation from Kalinga in 1995, through Apayao’s founding father Elias K. Bulut Sr.

In her statement, Mayor Martinez thanked and lauded the Apayao OFWs for their warm reception and fellowship. She remarked that OFWs ‘’are the new generation of heroes, although unsung for their sacrifices abroad while being away just to support and provide for their families.’

Meantime, SB member Rasher Alegre accompanied the LCE.
