Ordinance to provide P50K incentive to Kalinga centenarians referred for committee hearing

Updated: Jun 18, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga –A draft ordinance giving awards and incentives to centenarians in the province has been referred for committee hearing during the 58th Regular Session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on June 15.

Said ordinance in its 2nd reading was referred by the SP members to the Committee on Social Services.

Once approved, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development will be responsible in providing P50,000 incentive to all who will reach the age of 100 in the province.

Apart from this, they will be given letter of felicitation from the provincial governor to acknowledge the person’s longevity with a plaque of recognition.

Background of the ordinance

Board member Frederick Pangsiw, author of the ordinance, mentioned in an interview that since 2016, he envisioned that all 100-year-old people in Kalinga will receive an incentive and recognition. He related that he has been clamouring for this to materialize.

Then came the letter from the Senior Citizen Federation requesting for P30,000 incentive for the centenarians in Kalinga. The letter was then endorsed by Provincial Governor Ferdinand Tubban to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Pangsiw, nevertheless, recommended to make the amount to P50,000 instead, reasoning out that the value of money decreases over time.

“Isu nga inisponsorak daytoy a nu mabalin, instead of 30,000, because the value of money is getting lower and lower, nu mabalin ited mo diay P50,000,” he said.

“So hopefully, ma-approvan daytoy 3rd reading as an ordinance. At least the national government gives 100,000, the City of Tabuk gives another 50, and the provincial government should give another 50,” he concluded.
