Tabuk City, Kalinga – During a meeting of the Kalinga Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), Governor James Edduba reported that the number of confirmed casualties from Super Typhoon Uwan has risen to three, with two others still missing and feared dead.

Two of the confirmed casualties were among a group buried by a landslide in Western Uma, Lubuagan, on November 10, 2025. Reports said that several individuals were attempting to retrieve their belongings inside a house when the soil above it collapsed, burying the structure and those inside.

Two bodies were recovered, while two others have yet to be found. A report from the Kalinga PDRRMO stated that one of the recovered victims was missing a head, while the other had a missing arm.

Authorities identified the fatalities as Eric Magwin and Aki Magwin, while the two still missing were identified as Kagawad Redento Tinio and Ricardo Magwin.

Meanwhile, the third confirmed casualty was a 74-year-old woman from Buscalan, Tinglayan, who drowned during the typhoon.

According to an investigation by PNP-Kalinga, the victim, identified as Lam-ao Baot, was with her daughter when a strong gust of wind caused her to lose balance and fall into a creek. The raging water swept her away, leading to her death. Her body was later found by search and rescue teams deployed in Tinglayan.

Governor Edduba, during the PDRRMC meeting held on the morning of November 11, said that the Kalinga Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) will extend assistance to the bereaved families. He also instructed Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Rosemarites Oyawon to expedite the provision of aid and other necessary support.

“Adda met ti relief and non-food items ken emergency cash assistance nga mabalin maitulong. Apart from this, other aid maybe provided under government programs like burial aid,” said Oyawon.

“Kitaen yo man tapno maipadtulod dagos ti tulong kadagiti families nga natayan. It is unfortunate and tragic that this happened although we ordered pre-emptive and forced evacuation. The best we can do now is to extend needed help and augment the manpower nga mangbirok kadagiti duwa pay nga saan pay naretrieve,” reminded Edduba.

Edduba likewise directed the Engineering Office and the Kalinga PDRRMO to respond promptly to requests for assistance, noting that several areas in the province remain isolated after roads and bridges sustained heavy damage, particularly in parts of Tanudan, Tinglayan, and Pasil.
