Tinglayan, Kalinga – With its low vaccination rate of 18.68 percent to date, the municipality of Tinglayan under the leadership of Mayor Sacrament Gumilab is now pushing for the implementation of barangay vaccination in all the villages.

Barangay vaccination as a strategy of the municipality will require the personnel from the Municipal Health Office to go directly to the barangays to inoculate all eligible yTinglayans, who were not able to go to their Rural Health Unit to receive the vaccines.

On Tuesday, November 9, the Municipal Health Office led by Dr. Aite Caren Liw-agan went to Buscalan and carried with them 400 doses of Sinovac and 5 vials of AstraZeneca vaccines and as a result, 10 percent of the target lists in Buscalan were vaccinated. 2 vials of AstraZeneca vaccines were likewise transported to Ahrong.

On the said list, 3 were under the A2 priority list, 13 under A4, and 42 under A5, of which, 26 were jabbed with Sinovac while 32 with AstraZeneca.

Mayor Gumilab in a statement said that a report from the Department of Health (DOH) last Friday, November 5 revealed that his jurisdiction has a low rate of vaccination roll-out and to solve this, the Barangay vaccination which they previously conducted will be again conducted to boost their efforts on vaccination.

To reach herd immunity, which the LGU has been clamoring about, they will continue the conduct of barangay vaccination until their target will be reached before December 25.

“Since we have enough vaccines for the whole Tinglayan, we will strive to conduct barangay vaccination every day. Our target is to have 80% of the total population in Tinglayan be vaccinated before December ends or before Christmas,” he said.

Aside from said effort, daily vaccination will also be held at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) for interested individuals, regardless if it is for their first dose or second dose of vaccination.

“The vaccine is there to help protect us from Covid-19. With available vaccines in the municipality, let us not miss this chance to get vaccinated,” Mayor Gumilab reminds the public.

In support of the mayor’s statement, Dr. Liw-agan likewise urged the public to inform their midwife of their intent to be vaccinated and enlist themselves on the master list for the barangay vaccination.

Meantime, scheduled for the barangay vaccination November 10 is Barangay Ngibat, Dananao on November 11 and Barangay Dananao on November 12.
