Tabuk City, Kalinga - Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang has challenged newly inducted officers and members of United Architect of the Philippines (UAP) District 1AB to make use of their professional advantage in helping communities thrive against the ongoing adversity, even if it demands more work than pay.

The solon’s message as a guest of honor was delivered by Regino Wacas during the turnover and induction ceremony of UAP District 1AB held on September 22, 2021.

Mangaoang congratulated the officers and the whole membership of the organization, adding that he is honored to be with the frontline of development and this administration’s ‘Build, Build, Build.’

He described the Filipino architects as the ‘most intelligent, industrious, and passionate’ such that Filipino architecture is much appreciated all over the world.

“Napakadakila po ng arkitektong Pilipino. Hindi po nya inaalala ang sarili nyang kapakanan bagkus palagi nyang iniisip ang kapakanan ng kanyang kliyente,” the solon stated.

Health response of Architects

Mangaoang acknowledged the organization’s response to the distress call to help our communities despite the health challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, thus the theme, “ANSINNAGKAT, thriving amidst adversity.”

Ansinnagkat, the solon explained, “is one of Kalinga’s best culture of Bayanihan encapsulating the true spirit of volunteerism, sacrifice, and servitude being practiced in all the 17 sub-tribes of the province.”

He underscored that it is in these trying times that the architects’ social responsibility should have more weight in their career more than ever. They have to be able to influence people’s perspective vis-à-vis the social environment this pandemic has created.

“Throughout history, your profession has stood as a representation of the society. Your profession is a living witness to the values, the successes and eventual downfall of civilizations. Your profession was influential in building monumental structures which forms the fabric of civilization,” Mangaoang stressed.

The solon likewise highlighted the impact that architecture has on people’s lives in entirely new ways through “studying the built environment of the past, combined with modern-day research on psychology and the environment.”

An appeal to Architects

As a public servant representing the province and all indigenous people in the country, Mangaoang called for the architects to “lead and help shape the direction of the development track which will benefit fellowmen in a holistic way.”

“Help shape the political landscape by supporting leaders who can offer concrete solutions to the many adversities daunting us. That way, we can always be the builder of better communities for humanity,” added the solon.

“Lastly, we should continue to serve as models and catalysts for positive change in our communities so that peace and prosperity will reign,” Mangaoang concluded.

UAP District 1AB is composed of Cagayan Valley chapter, Cagayan North Chapter, Isabela Sierra madre chapter, Isabela Amianan Chapter, Nueva Vizcaya Chapter, “and the soon to be chartered chapter- Kalinga Rio Chico Chapter.”
