2.6 M learners enrolled in early registration for next school year - DepEd

A total of 2,686,834 learners have availed the Department of Education’s (DepEd) early registration for the coming school year as of April 12. This is to continue the education programs of the government despite the battle against Covid-19.

“Actually nag-umpisa na tayo ng early registration, kasi samantalang lumalaban tayo sa Covid, ginagawa din natin ‘yung ating regular duties, sinusunod natin ‘yung ating regular calendar,” says Secretary Leonor Briones during the Laging Handa Public Briefing this April 13.

“Pinagpatuloy natin ito so that ‘yung may sense of normalcy, may sense of continuity, ‘yung sinasabi nating education must continue whatever is the situation in the country. We do what we are supposed to do but at the same time we fight Covid and join in the battle against this dreaded disease,” she said.

On academic break issue, DepEd Usec. Diosdado San Antonio said that academic ease is being implemented and that there’s no need to stop education, rather, what’s needed to be done is to be considerate on the situation of every learner.

Also, he said that part of the guideline they released asks teachers not to be too much strict on deadlines.

He further said that teachers are doing different ways to reach out to their students and to provide the needed guidance for them.
