9 dead in Cagayan road accident after van lost control

Tabuk City, Kalinga — Nine members of the Agta community were killed in a road crash late evening this February 5 in Lal-lo, Cagayan, while a driver and his passenger were injured.

The nine individuals included a 10-year-old and a 3-month-old baby.

Deputy Chief of Police of PNP Lal-lo, Police Lieutenant Gilbert Columna, told Bombo Radyo Tuguegarao that the nine victims came from a wake and they were standing near the four-lane road at the place of the incident when the accident happened.

A van driven by Dan Vincent Domingo, an army reservist and resident of Bulanao, Tabuk City, lost control of the vehicle at the curved part of the road where the nine were standing by and hit the victims, initial investigation of the police revealed.

Due to the speed, the van also crashed against a house, a garage of another house, and then plowed a tricycle and a Fortuner before it hit another house.

All the victims were dead on the spot while Domingo and his companion inside the van, Allan Jay Parungao from Dagupan Centro Tabuk City, were injured. The two were later rushed to the hospital.

Meantime, the victims were brought to a morgue in Lal-lo, while the police were coordinating with their families.

Investigation of the incident is still ongoing, and the physicians are verifying whether the driver was intoxicated when the road crash happened.
