Barangay health station in Benguet plunged into 30m ravine due to landslide


Bakun, Benguet – A health station and a barangay hall in Barangay Poblacion, Bakun were among those damaged by a landslide during the onslaught of Typhoon Maring, with the barangay suffering losses of P3.5 million estimated damages.


According to the Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDANA) conducted on said area Friday, October 15 as reported by Mountain Province Broadcasting Corporation, the initial ballpark figure of the damage to the barangay health clinic amounts to P1.5 million while the barangay hall building, P2 million.


Aside from said government buildings, barangay officials also reported that an old house was partly destroyed due to continuous rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Maring that hit the province on October 11.

‘Ti Barangay Health Clinic/Station ken gudwa ti Barangay hall building karaman ti barangay hall dirty kitchen ket nargaay iti kauneg a 30 meters,’ a report from the MPBC stated.


Some files to include administrative, legal and general public records and other equipment were retrieved but found out to be non-functional already.


The incident may have happened on said date but videos and photos were only posted on social media by some individuals and the Public Information Office of Bakun on Thursday, October 14, as cell site signal in the area is poorly affecting the internet connectivity.

Meantime, 12 houses located near the area were also reported to have incurred damages, 6 of them are totally damaged, while 6 others were partially damaged.


In other parts of Benguet, landslides have also caused the deaths of 9 individuals. Victims include the 3 Teligo siblings from Ambiong, La Trinidad, a 32-year-old woman from Tuding, Itogon, a senior citizen in Ampucao, Itogon, 3 from Dominican Mirador, Baguio City and a young man from Tacadang, Kibungan.


Still missing is Romy Balangen, a 25-year-old and resident of Tacadang, Kibungan.
