Tabuk City, Kalinga – iKalinga Navy officer Ensign Charles Wandag Cayangao, who recently completed a prestigious three-year education and military training in Australia, was reminded by Governor James Edduba to serve with integrity, dignity, and unwavering commitment to public service.

Cayangao, who hails from Tanudan, Kalinga, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 2025 and graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) on December 11, 2025. ADFA is a globally recognized institution in Canberra that provides combined military and tertiary education for future officers of the Navy, Army, and Air Force.

He was one of only three PMA cadets deployed on January 13, 2023, to undergo rigorous academic and military training under the Philippines–Australia defense cooperation framework. The other cadets were Nathanjan B. Llasos, 22, from Legazpi City, Albay, and Kyle R. Lanza, 23, from Alabel, Sarangani Province.

Based on information gathered from relatives, friends, and local media, Cayangao earned a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Physics and Aviation and graduated alongside the two other First Class PMA cadets.

The young iKalinga not only graduated from the academy but was also named Best Performing ADFA International Trainee Officer in Fitness and received a Commanding Officer’s Military Commendation for his outstanding performance throughout the training.

Cayangao chose to serve in the Philippine Navy, a decision driven by his desire to challenge himself beyond his familiar environment in the Cordillera and serve where he is most needed.

On January 5, 2026, the 23-year-old paid a courtesy visit to Governor Edduba to personally express his gratitude for the continued support of the provincial government for iKalinga youth aspiring to serve the country in uniform.

During the visit, Edduba commended Cayangao for bringing pride to the province and reminded him to remain disciplined and morally grounded, avoiding temptations that could damage his character, reputation, and achievements.

“Kalinga is truly proud of you. Keep being inspired by your family, use your achievements to help other young people—especially here in Kalinga—and continue serving your community. Always refrain from temptations that could destroy you and everything you have worked for,” the governor said.

Cayangao also shared that another female cadet from Kalinga is set to join ADFA this year, further strengthening the province’s growing legacy of producing globally competitive military officers.
