Tabuk City, Kalinga - With the announcement of the Department of Health that the COVID-19 Omicron variant has entered the country, the Provincial Health Office of Kalinga reminds anew those unjabbed individuals to get vaccinated and avail of whatever vaccine is available to protect themselves.

DOH in a press release Wednesday, December 15 reported that two Omicron variant cases have been detected and that, these were incoming travelers in the country, one is a Returning Overseas Filipino while the other case is a Nigerian national who arrived from Nigeria on November 30, 2021, via Oman Air.

"...reminding all individuals 12 years old and above who are not yet vaccinated against COVID-19 to avail of whatever COVID-19 vaccines are offered during vaccination services at the nearest Rural Health Units or the other designated vaccination sites, and refrain from waiting for preferred brands to be protected," PHO in an advisory stated.

PHO added that aside from the vaccines, booster shots can also be availed but stressed that these could only be administered six months after the second dose for all vaccines except for Janssen which should be given 3 months after the second dose of those who got their first jabbed.

Meantime, PHO is urging the public to adhere to the minimum public standards and properly wear face masks, frequently wash hands with soap and water or alcohol, observe physical distancing, ensure proper ventilation, and avoid crowded areas.

For this holiday season, PHO said that the public should avoid holding mass gatherings in closed areas to curb the transmission of COVID-19.
