Pasig City, Philippines― In response to President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to defer the increase, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) decided to keep monthly contribution of members with lowest income at PhP300.

This is after the announcement of members' contributions hike enraged Filipinos whose finances have been affected by the pandemic.

PhilHealth suspended the hike in members' contributions that was supposed to take effect this month after President Rodrigo Duterte stopped them from implementing their plan to collect higher contributions from their members.

President Duterte said in his public address that there will be no move to increase the contribution since it is the job of the government to alleviate the sufferings of everybody at this time.

In a released official statement of the PhilHealth, it said that they are one with the President in his effort to ease the burden on many Filipinos being affected by the pandemic.

“Philhealth will still collect premiums from Direct Contributors using the 3 percent instead of the 3.5 percent contributions rate; and the 60,000 instead of the PhP70,000 ceiling in CY 2020,” it said.

It further stated that the interim arrangement will be good until Congress is able to pass a new law allowing the deferment of the scheduled premium adjustment in the Universal Health Care Act of 2019.
