Imagine the pressure if you were the principal and your students are expecting to have their graduation photos but the photographers are nowhere to be found.

This is what happened when Ceasar Gup-ay Manalwap, principal of Kalinga Academy in Lubuagan found himself having no choice but to get creative as photographers became unavailable to travel due to restrictions of the pandemic, not to mention the fear of getting infected of the virus and getting thrown into the quarantine facility like an inmate for 14 days.

While their 69 students completing 4 years in junior high school were all excited to have their graduation photos taken, Manalwap thought of putting into application the things he learned in mobile photography.

He said there is always first and this shall certainly be a memorable first, and experiment that shouldn’t go wrong.

Scheduling the photoshoot

The principal turned instant photographer scheduled 10 students per day in order not to compromise the observance of the minimum health standards. “I scheduled only 10 students per day to keep a safe space and to prevent spread of Covid19 and for me to process the photos,” he said.

Manalwap took his mobile phone and take shots keeping in mind lighting effects, angles, positions, distance, colors, and expressions and poses. The result is fantastic.

“They were very excited at sila na mismo pipili kung okay na ‘yung photo, pina paulit pa nga nila hanggang ma-satisfy sila,” he added.

The principal learned that the most important in taking the photos is trying and satisfying the students. If they want the photo, then it is all good. Important activities like graduation rites and ceremonies should not be left uncaptured.

The Kalinga Academy moving up ceremony is set first week of June 2021.

Message to the completers

Meanwhile, as the principal of Kalinga Academy, Manalwap encourages the completers to apply the knowledge and values they learned in school.

“My warmest congratulations to you my students. I hope that the knowledge and values that you have learned in school will carry over to any undertaking that you will start. Use wisely these legacies of education as you chart the course of your future. Continue thirsting for ideas, and keep on pushing learning to even greater heights,” he said.
