Tinglayan LGU awards over P.6M to eco solid waste management winners on Christmas

Tinglayan, Kalinga – A cleaner, greener and healthier Tinglayan is becoming more a reality as more ecological solid waste management program and projects are being implemented and encouraged.


On December 22, 2021, the Local Government Unit awarded P640,000 cash prizes to the winners of the ecological solid waste management contest during their Christmas Program. The said amount is expected to be used by the winners to upgrade their pro-environment activities in their communities.

Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Pacita Dangi said the barangays will be using their prize money to implement ecological solid waste management programs and projects.


She added that monitoring will be done to check whether the given cash prizes will be used solely for their intended purpose.


For Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, he said they want the public to know more about the LGU’s environmental program and encourage them to participate in the upcoming search in 2022 with a goal of achieving a cleaner and healthier Tinglayan.


“These contests are just a few of the innovations of the municipality to encourage the constituents to participate and be an active partner in the promotion of health and sanitation program,” he said.

Cash prizes awarded


P300,000 was given to winners for the Search for Healthy Barangay, P180,000 for winners of the Search for Junior Hulk Academy, P60,000 for the Search for green hand innovation, and P100,000 for the Search for Healthy Household.


For the Search for Healthy Barangay (new category), first prize winner is Barangay Lower Bangad which received P120,000, second prize winner, Centro Bangad - P100,000, and Barangay Old Tinglayan with third place - P80,000.


For the sustainability category, Poblacion, which was declared as the first prize winner, was granted P50,000, Ambato-Legleg, the second prize winner with P30,000, and Barangay Luplupa, the third placer - P20,000.


As for the Search for Healthy Household, Janet Tambalon and Lidia Tillao were granted P7, 000 each being declared grand winners, while Glenda Bato-oy and Elmer Wawoc, who tied at the second place, received P6,000 each. For the third-place winners, which include Jinalyn Onggas and Stefania Buyogan, they were got P5,000 each.

Consolation prize amounting to P1,000 each was given to non-winning participants.

Likewise, winners of the Search for Green Hand Innovation were awarded with cash prizes. Julia Wacnang bagged the first place, receiving P7,000, second prize winner, Lebleb Banya-ao with P6,000 and third placer, Teresita Manallog with P5,000.


For the 17 participants who did not make it to the top three, they received from the LGU P1,500 each.


As recalled, LGU Tinglayan, in determining the winners, conducted assessment in November, the first round of assessment in which 60 percent of the overall score was drawn from. The second round where 40% of the score was derived was held the first week of December.
