6 dead in Cordillera due to Typhoon Maring, additional casualties feared


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Six lives were claimed by Typhoon Maring during its onslaught on the Cordillera region this week, in which all the victims were reported to have died because of the landslide while two minors are still missing.


The death toll can change once updates are made and possible additional casualties confirmed.


Local reports likewise mentioned 3 incidents of injuries.


Among the casualties, based on the data of the Civil Defense-Cordillera, are the 3 siblings who died in Ambiong, La Trinidad, Benguet, 2 from Itogon, Benguet and a 49-year-old man from Dominican Mirador, Baguio City.

The three kids from La Trinidad ageing 2, 6 and 8 died after their house was buried by a landslide at around 8 PM on Monday, October 11, 2021, while they were eating for dinner. They were rescued and were rushed to the hospital, but were declared dead on arrival.


The two from Itogon, particularly 1 from Simpa, Ampucao, and 1 in Naiba, Tuding, were reported to have been covered up in mud from huge soil erosion.

The casualty in Baguio was confirmed after the man's body was recovered at 11:50 AM on Tuesday, October 12, during the retrieval operation launched by government personnel and civilians.


For the injured, one is from Buguias, Benguet; one from Itogon, Benguet; and one from Dominican Mirador, Baguio City - a 52-year-old man who was found by authorities half-buried in the landslide.
