Bontoc, Mountain Province – Considering that they are prone to doing hazardous duties, regular employees of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Bontoc are now eligible to receive hazard pay after approval of Ordinance No.330, s. 2021.

Mayor Franklin Odsey recently approved said ordinance authored by Councilors Jerome Tudlong, Jr. and Alsannyster Patingan to grant other bonuses and allowances (hazard pay) to regular employees of the MDRRMO.

In said ordinance, MDRRMO permanent personnel are now entitled to hazard pay amounting to P1, 000.00 per month regardless of period of exposure.

The local government unit of Bontoc reports that the mayor signed the ordinance citing that MDRRMO employees are among those constantly exposed to risk, to the extent of putting their lives in danger while doing their duties.

The grant of said hazard pay, he added, is a reasonable compensation for the services they rendered and in consideration of their work environment as they performed their duties and responsibilities as disaster risk reduction and management workers.

The ordinance states that MDRRMO regular workers shall be given the privilege to receive their hazard pay starting February 2021 regardless of the date of its approval and affectivity.

Hazard pay, also called hazard allowance or hazardous duty pay, according to Department of Budget and Management (DBM), is a compensation paid in addition to regular salary to workers who perform hazardous duties or whose work involves physical hardships.
