Alfonso Lista, Ifugao – What should be a short trip to the market can take hours for farmers from the barangays of Domingo, Namnama, Halag, and Potia in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao, due to muddy and rough road conditions in their area.

This long-standing hardship, which has often resulted in profit losses, may soon ease with the ongoing construction of a farm-to-market road (FMR) connecting these barangays, as reported by the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Cordillera.

According to the agency, the project was made possible through the DA-PRDP Scale-Up program, which is designed to bridge the gap between agricultural production areas and markets.

The program aims to help farmers boost production and increase their income by providing better road access, especially for those in isolated communities.

Also in full support of the construction of the Domingo–Namnama–Halag–Potia FMR project is the provincial government of Ifugao, headed by Governor Jerry Dalipog.

With a total funding of P307 million, the DA-PRDP Cordillera said the project spans 14.856 kilometers. As of January 26, 2026, ongoing construction activities include excavation works, hauling of aggregates, removal of trees along the road alignment, and the mobilization of additional heavy equipment.

A field office is also being constructed to support the smooth implementation of the project.

Once completed, the FMR project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and transport costs for farmers in these communities, who have long endured difficult road conditions that limited efficient delivery of their produce and often caused financial losses.

Beyond agriculture, the road will also provide residents with improved access to schools, workplaces, and essential government services.

As of this report, data from the DA-PRDP-CAR shows that barangays Sto. Domingo, Namnama, Halag, and Potia have a combined population of 1,504 households, or 6,879 individuals.
