Tinglayan, Kalinga – Mayor Charles Abay personally inspected the collapsed Makilo Bridge in Bugnay, Tinglayan on Friday, December 5, where he committed the assistance and cooperation of the Municipal Local Government Unit in the ongoing efforts to restore road connectivity in the area.

The six-decade-old Makilo Bridge collapsed on December 1, disrupting mobility, especially for commuters traveling to Tabuk City from Bontoc and other areas in Tinglayan due to the road cut. To allow people to cross to the other side, a temporary bamboo footbridge was installed.

On December 2, the Department of Public Works and Highways announced that it had begun mobilizing personnel and equipment for the construction of a temporary Mabey-type bridge, which is expected to be completed in 60 days. The agency also stated that the permanent bridge replacement is projected to be finished by June 2026.

Mayor Abay, who earlier urged the DPWH to expedite the replacement of the Makilo Bridge to minimize inconvenience for travelers and affected communities, personally inspected the site on Friday and met with residents, stakeholders, and the DPWH workforce.

The mayor assured that the Municipal LGU is ready to assist and cooperate in the urgent efforts to restore road access and ensure the safety of travelers and commuters.

“We are closely coordinating with the DPWH tapnu iti kasta ket ma-ensure tayo nga amin nga kasapulan ditoy replacement ti Makilo Bridge ket ag-proceed without hindrance, tapnu agsubli iti normal traffic flow as soon as possible,” Abay said in a statement.
